First Responders, Resiliency Skills and Prevention of PTSD
First Responders experience job-related stress that can have a severe negative impact on their personal relationships. The Make A Plan workshop guides First Responders and their primary supports person(s) in building skills and concrete plans so they can stay healthy, happy, and have more successful outcomes in their personal lives.
Consider a few statistics:
- A divorcing employee’s job performance drops by 5075%. (Integrated International Development)
- We know that divorce rates for First Responders average 80%, which is 3040% higher than the general population. (Strongerfamilies.org)
- In 2014 there were 26 First Responders across Canada , and 17 from Ontario alone, who lost their lives through suicide as a result of PTSD. (Tema, 2015)
- 70% of PTSD sufferers have addictions (Morley, 2015)
While these statistics are true, most people are resilient by nature or can learn resiliency skills.
During this workshop, First Responders and their primary support person will:
- Understand the difference between “Essential Skills at Work vs. the Essential Skills at Home” ©, an exclusive model of First Responder Services
- Learn the “Resilience/Shame Model” © (as developed by First Responder Services) to understand how to have healthier relationships and mental health
- Learn how to create family/partner plans to prepare for and manage critical incidents and stress-related-to work pressures
- Learn the importance of resiliency skills so that cumulative stress and PTSD can be prevented
